If you’ve been following my blog since it’s inception in 2005, you know I focused primarily on my personal journey with Rheumatoid Arthritis throughout my 20s and 30s. After much contemplation, I’ve decided to expand that focus, in a desire to connect with all mamas battling chronic health conditions. That said, this post is a form of begging and pleading (sorry, not sorry), other chronic mamas to share their personal stories via ChronicMum.com. Eventually, I’d like to roll out a peer to peer matching feature that allows folks with similar conditions, demographics, children’s’ ages, interests, etc. to meet, guide and support each other. Ultimately, I want families living with all types of chronic health conditions to have access to a real life all inclusive support network.
According to an Empirical Study of Chronic Diseases in the United States, 45% of all Americans suffer from at least one chronic illness. The US Center for National Health defines a chronic disease as one that lasts 3-months or more. Chronic diseases typically can’t be prevented by a vaccine or cured by medication.
This includes my autoimmune sisters with conditions including but not limited to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, IBD, Type I Diabetes, Psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis, Psoriasis, Graves’ Disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Myasthenia Gravis and Vasculitis, but also non-autoimmune yet chronic diseases including but not limited to Cancer, Epilepsy, Chronic Migraines, Depression, Oral Health diseases, Type II Diabetes, Eating disorders, Stroke and Cardiovascular diseases.
At the end of the day, moms have a lot to juggle between their children, husbands, careers, diet & exercise, fashion, cooking, cleaning, self love, etc. When you throw a chronic illness into that already hectic mom lifestyle, things can get extra cray-cray!! Let’s use this as a platform to share, learn, vent and most importantly, support our fellow chronic mamas!
With love,
Katie
Congratulations! This is a fantastic idea.
